Mariah Carey Opens Up About ‘comeback Album’ That Left Her Frustrated. Mariah Carey just explained a thought that has haunted her for almost her entire career.
The 56-year-old artist, who celebrated the 20th anniversary of her 2005 album, The Emancipation of the Mummy, on her son’s live stream, said she felt “angry” that her fans called it a “comeback album.”
“At the time, it pissed me off when they called it a comeback album, but now I’m just like, ‘Oh yeah, my comeback album,’” Mariah told People magazine.

The album, at the time, was released three years after her 2002 album Charmbracelet, featured collaborations with Snoop Dogg and Jermaine Dupri and debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200 chart.
“It’s like, how much of a comeback do I have to make?” She told the outlet in a rhetorical statement, adding, “If people “know the album, they’re usually a fan of the album.”
Mariah added, “But not everyone knows the album, so people can find different songs and get to know the feel of the album.”

Additionally, celebrating The Emancipation of Mimi’s anniversary on social media, the Emotions singer uploaded to her Instagram: “Happy “Mimi” Anniversary!! I’m excited to celebrate it with you.
