Maren Morris Opens Up About Feeling ‘Isolated’ After Genre Shift. Maren Morris opened up about her experience transitioning into a new genre and making new music in a different musical style.
The ‘Carry Me Through’ singer opened up about her recent transition from country to pop in a chat with Kathy Bucko on the Talk Shop live stream.
During the conversation, Morris said she spoke with Taylor Swift, who is known for constantly reinventing her sound in different musical styles while on tour with The Chicks, and it was “incredibly helpful.”
“I couldn’t imagine a better support system than being able to talk to people like Marty [Maguire] and Emily [Stryer] and Natalie [Mains] and Taylor who have really navigated these worlds in very different ways, obviously,” she explained.
“It can feel really isolating sometimes,” Morris said.

The Grammy winner added, “With people who have gone through some version of it, I mean I wouldn’t be the same person today if someone who went through it hadn’t given me something like, you know, peace.”
Elsewhere, she also made it clear that in her transition between genres, she won’t forget her roots, country music.
“I don’t think I have to step between [genres]. I don’t think I have to choose the music that I’m doing. I just write it and it goes where it goes.”
“Sometimes a story takes hold, takes hold and it becomes true,” she addressed previous reports.
