The intimate photos and videos were eventually leaked, circulating on Twitter and Tumblr.
During a chat with Cosmo, she revealed that the cyberbullying and slut-shaming that followed sent her into a depressive spiral.
“Of all the things I went through as a result of my sudden rise to fame, the most traumatic was having my private nude photos leaked at 15 years old,” Madison wrote in her memoir, The Half of It, according to an excerpt published by Rolling Stone.

“It still haunts me almost a decade later. Every time I think I’m completely healed, another side effect rears its ugly head, like peeling back layers of an onion, and I realize how much trauma has affected every aspect of my life.”
Speaking to Cosmo, she said, “The guy who had the whole nudity situation come up to me and was like, ‘I had no idea I hurt you like that, I’m so sorry.'”

Expressing sympathy for the person who leaked her photos, Madison Beer said, “I don’t know what it’s like for a 14-year-old boy to be receiving photos of a girl. Maybe it’s wishful thinking, but I don’t think he’s being malicious by showing them to his friends. He was a kid.”
