During the state visit, King Charles made a joke about his health while planting a tree in the Villa Volkonsky gardens in Rome.

Notably, this candid moment comes just weeks after Charles was admitted to hospital due to side effects from ongoing cancer treatment. The sudden hospitalisation has led to the cancellation of all his royal engagements.
Buckingham Palace released a statement that read, “Following scheduled and ongoing medical treatment for cancer this morning, The Monarch has experienced temporary side effects which required a short period of observation in hospital.”
“His Majesty’s afternoon engagements have therefore been postponed. As a precautionary measure, tomorrow (Friday)’s diary programme will also be rearranged, in line with medical advice,” it added.
