Jackie Chan explained that he would ‘always’ do his stunts ‘until the day I retire’. Jackie Chan just proved why he’s an icon.
The 71-year-old actor, who is set to star in the upcoming film Karate Kid: Legends and is known for his action-packed roles in films, told Haute Living that he has no plans to retire.
“Of course, I always do my own stunts. It’s who I am. It’s not going to change until the day I retire, which is never!” he said with a laugh.
Explaining his level of skill through his own words, Chan mentioned, “When you’ve been doing this for 64 years, there’s no physical preparation anymore,” he added, “It’s all in your heart and soul; it’s muscle memory.”
Furthermore, he commented on the fact that action movies have come a long way in terms of technology.
“In the old days, just being there and jumping was all [we had]; that’s it,” he recalled.
“Today, with computers, actors can do anything, but there’s always a sense of reality that’s missing,” Chan added.

The Rush Hour star saw the development as a “double-edged sword,” in that “on the one hand, actors become more and more capable of doing impossible stunts with the help of technology, and yet, on the other hand, the concept of danger and limitation is blurred and the audience becomes numb.”
“But I’m not encouraging anyone to risk their lives like I did; it’s really too dangerous,” Jackie Chan concluded with a word of advice.
